History of Ross German Shepherds

At the age of five my Mother began showing American Cocker Spaniels in my home state of California. There were over fifty American Champions that finished during the years that followed. My weekends were spent grooming, training and helping her raise them. I attended many dog shows with her and by eight saw my first group of German Shepherds at the Del Monte Kennel Club show in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. I was hooked!

The beauty and intelligence of this breed intrigued me. They were powerful yet always willing to please and by 1966 "Nyet" became my first German Shepherd. Yes, her name means "No" in Russian. She was too bright!. She learned to jump fences, play dead, roll over and do obedience at the companion dog level. My second shepherd was to be a show dog but that did not happen for her. Instead, she accomplished her C.D. in three consecutive dog shows.

To date we have finished many homebred Canadian and American champions and have produced a Best-In-Show female, Can. Ch. Ross' Tokyo Express. Our Am/Can Ch. Ross' Versailles has won group firsts out of the classes in both countries. Both girls are real dreams come true.

Our puppies are born in our laundry room in the basement and are raised in a loving environment. At six weeks they go to the barn under a heat lamp, due to our inclement weather, where they continue to receive attention and frequent handling. We are located on 10 acres in the Cowichan Valley approximately 40 km north of Victoria. Visitors are always welcome to see our dogs and kennel facilities.
